Sea Salt Coarse
Salt product was once considered so valuable, it was used for currency. It has been considered a fertility symbol, a key ingredient in magical spells and potions, used in mummy preservation and religious ceremonies, and were a key component in the development of international trade. This is the only rock directly consumed by man. It has been used since the beginning of life by ocean plants, animals and people. There are two kinds of salt; Sea Salt Coarse and rock salt. Sodium chloride, a mineral which crystallizes in small transparent cubes, melts at 803° centigrade, is soluble in both hot and cold water, and conducts a current of electricity.
Sea Salt Coarse, a salt obtained by evaporating sea water, is used in cooking and in such products as cosmetics. Its mineral content gives it a different taste from table salt, which is mostly sodium chloride and made from either sea or rock salt (halite), a mineral that is mined. Table salt may contain anticaking agents and additives such as the dietary supplement iodides. Areas that produce specialized Sea Salt Coarse include Maine, France, Ireland and Cape Cod.
