Sodium metabisulfite is a white or yellowish crystaline powder that comes in three grades: technical, food and photographic. We carry the food grade. Sodium metabisulfite is used as an antioxidant in pharmaceutical preparations as well as in chemical manufacturing, water treatment, tanning, textile dyeing, cleaning and bleaching wool, jute and vegetable fibers, photochemical solutions, food and beverages, pulp manufacturing; manufacture of flavors, fragrances, medicines,cornstarch, high-fructose corn syrup and oxidized staches, surfactants; and dechlorination.

Sodium metabisulfite is also used to sterilize containters. Mix 264 grams or 6 crushed tablets (also known as Campden tablets) in one gallon of water, rinse containers and let air dry. Do not re-rinse with water. The sodium metabisulphite solution can be reused.
