Lathanol LAL (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate). To function well, all shampoos and body washes require a primary or main cleanser as part of the formulation. There are four main groups of primary cleansers, all of which are chemically different. 1. Sulfates 2. Soaps 3. Sulfonates 4. Carboxylates The cosmetic industry has chosen to use sulphates (such as SLS, SLES and ammonium lauryl sulfate) as the main cleanser in shampoos and body washes almost exclusively up until now, due to their powerful cleansing action and very low cost. However, Sulfates tend to be powerful irritants, and there are also questions about their long-term safety. Lathanol LAL (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) is a much gentler alternatative although a little too expensive for the mass market, it is perfect for the small producer who is looking for a 'kind to the skin', natural product. Lathanol is skin friendly and has negligible irritancy, and is plant derived and performs well as cleansers.
