Cyclomethicone
Cyclomethicone (polydimethylsiloxane), also known as silicone oil, when added to cosmetic creams and lotions in amounts as little as 1% - 3%, greatly improves the skin-feel of the cosmetics by reducing tackiness and improving slip. It also leaves a barrier on your skin to help prevent moisture loss. As little as .5% will reduce tackiness.
Cyclomethicone is virtually non-toxic, nonbioactive, nonbioaccumulating, nonstinging on skin and tasteless and is a low hazard ingredient, (low odour, low toxicity, low environmental hazard, low fire hazard) with a long storage life as it is nonrancidifying. In the environment, it ultimately breaks down into inorganic silica, carbon dioxide and water vapour.
