Blue clay is the most potent of all phyllitous medicinal clays. Montmorillonite clays are mined in various parts of the world. In some parts of the world the clays were formed during the Jurassic period many million of years ago, others originate from later periods. Just like all minerals in the earth, the quality of the deposit will vary from area to area and country to country. This clay contains a balance of minerals in their natural colloidal form, these minerals enhance the production of enzymes in all living organisms. Blue clay is a rich source of trace minerals and has the most adsorptive properties of all the clays, making it a popular bulk-forming agent. Blue clay has some of the same benefits as Red Montmorillonite but is bluish gray in color. It is great for use in soaps as a natural color additive. It is highly efficient at drawing oils and toxins from the skin and is best suited for oily skin and hair types. Do not use for sensitive or dry skin types. Blue clay can also be used in soaps (about 1 T per lb of soap) and in body and foot powders as a natural color additive.Externally, blue clay is used in the making of poultices, baths, creams, lotions, and masks.
