Borax (Sodium borate) is a granular white crystalline substance that has many uses from cosmetics to cleaning products. It can be used as an emulsifier in creams when combined with beeswax at a ratio from 16:1 to 20:1 and is also used in lotions, shampoos, dyes, gels, bath salts and denture cleaners.

For household cleaning, a solution is sometimes used for cleaning sinks and toilets, as a laundry booster and water softener, and as an alternative to dishwasher detergent (often combined with washing soda for this application).
