Bay laurel Laurus nobilus is native to the Mediterranean region, the essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and branchlets, and a small amount from the berries. This evergreen tree grows to some 20 meters high with dark green, glossy leaves and black berries is often cultivated as an ornamental shrub. Laurel leaf (bay laurel) essential oil has a herbaceous, fruity, fresh, pungently camphorous scent. It is a medium-strong top note that blends well with anise, clove, lime and nutmeg.
