Australian Balm Mint essential oil Prostanthera melissifolia growing to six feet this hardwood shrub with its tiny dark green leaves is a native of Australia. The purple flowers are tinted with pink, which makes an attractive complement to gray shrubs and other pink flowers. Properties reported include antibacterial, antifungal and carminative. The plant is rich in volatile oils, including menthol and cineole. The leaves are antibacterial, antifungal and carminative. They have been used externally in the treatment of colds and headaches.
